This study examines attitudes about race and ethnicity, campus culture, peer culture, and the effects of COVID-19 among Asian American college students. From Spring 2022-Fall 2023, Shania conducted 41 semi-structured interviews with Asian American College students at two predominantly white institutions (PWI) located in different geographical regions.
From this data, Shania is currently working on a paper examining how Asian American college students understand "Asian American" identity using Stuart Hall's theoretical framework of race as a floating signifier.
A second paper in the works uses an Asian Critical Theory (AsianCrit) perspective to analyze how embodied counterspaces between Asian American college students help form Asian American identity.
